The historic Belton Chalet and Glacier National Park celebrated their centennial year in 2010! A year of celebrations and remarkable events kicked off with the Belton Chalet New Year's Eve Party on December 31st, 2009. The Belton family welcomed new and old friends to ring in the centennial year with vintage 1910 attire and a full evening of dining, entertainment, and accommodations in our fully restored Chalet and Lodge.
We hosted several other Belton centennial events over the summer of 2010, highlighting our tie to Glacier National Park and the Great Northern Railway. Our Glacier Centennial Poetry Reading on June 25, 2010 was extremely well attended, and kicked off with a performance by Glacier Park entertainer Jack Gladstone, one of fifteen contest winners. Guests were also entertained by local musician Dan Dubuque, who filled the air with sounds of his charango and weissenborg.
Our 100th Birthday Party was on June 27, 2010 and what a great party! So many people attended the Belton's birthday – people who worked at the Belton over 35 years ago, folks involved in the lengthy restoration, and tons of past and present employees with their families. We mingled, and awarded some noteworthy friends for their roles in the past, present and future of the beautiful Belton Chalet. The highlight of the evening was over 100 people singing the birthday song to “dear Belton”.
A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the Heritage Tours, took place in August, and thirty individuals experienced Glacier National Park the way its first tourists did one hundred years ago. Belton Chalet was the beginning and ending for these phenomenal tours in the centennial year as it was in 1910.
The last Belton Chalet Centennial event was our Lifetime Employee Reunion, when all past employees of the Belton were invited to connect and remember their good times at the Belton. The Bear Bench Union Band played lively old time mountain music and had partygoers tearing up the dancefloor. A great time was had by all!
Thank you to everyone who helped us celebrate our centennial year! We had so much fun with our old and new friends!
